Through the years, Gerry has written in many genres in search of his musical voice, from Gaelic songs and traditional airs to highly polished and immaculately produced modern mixes of folk n funk and electronic trad.
Spending his formative years surrounded by American sounds on records and reel to reels, people like Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday and Doris day even, Gerry was immersed in the big band sounds like Glen Millar, Tommy Dorsey, great Sax players like Stan Getz a lot of swing, jazz and blues from across the big pond. An enviable musical education to jam along with really.

As Gerry got older he recognised and revelled in the genius of Burt Bacharach and the mind blowing Stevie wonder. Of course growing up in that era, Janis Ian and Joan Armatrading were the sound track of the chase. Gerry’s love affair with musical creation continued unabated and he experimented with various methods to craft a well made song.
Gerry has been fortunate to have spent much of the nineties playing music with some of Ireland’s most respected artists and session Musicians, Ritchie Buckley, Artie McGlynn, James Blenahast, to name but a few on an impressive roll call of visionary talent. Gerry was to return to his roots with the formation of the fourteen piece Gerry Maguire Band. A big band with an authentic and thrilling modern day big band sound adding further musical texture to his already burgeoning talents. Once again Gerry and his music were surrounded with genuine and exquisite musical talent in the form of Patrick Dunne, Bobby Robertson, Brendan O Hare, John Conlon…to again name only a very few on a list that’s quite long. ......The music was great and the craic was even better.......
Concentrating again on honing his musical creativity, Gerry spent some time in various studio settings, working with Ken McHugh in Pulse and many others across the country. The big band, big sound was left behind and a more soulful, searching and emotive Gerry emerged. Of course the song writing, the exploration of craft, the crucible of creativity, continued and Gerry entered what has been his most prolific period to date.
Gerry has been rehearsing, recording and doing occasional gigs here and there, corporate and charity in preparation for a national tour, check out the news sections for details.
